Do you ever wonder how life might be different if you felt less anxious?
Anxiety is a thief! It robs us of joy and ease and makes it difficult to be in the present moment. In addition, there are particularly Jewish patterns of feeling anxious.
- Rabbi Caryn Aviv’s 5-week Unlearning Jewish Anxiety series will provide you with:
- A concise and practical guide to how our minds work and how we create unconscious habits, in response to antisemitism, that cause suffering.
- An analysis of complex collective, transmitted trauma: how Jews internalize antisemitism and turn those messages on ourselves, one another, and our loved ones and allies.
- A tour through three different Jewish anxiety patterns about our safety, worthiness, and belonging in the world.
- Jewish wisdom to grow your self-awareness, curiosity, self-compassion, and courage to change.
- Thought questions and practical exercises to help you become more aware of what you have learned and internalized.
- Helpful tools to notice when you’re in a habit hole of suffering from internalized thought distortions, and most importantly, ways to get out of those habits and find better alternatives that bring you more joy.
This class is a particularly timely tool as many people in our community are feeling a heightened sense of anxiety given the current situation in the Middle East. We invite you to participate and gather practical tools to navigate difficult times like these.

It empowers students through education and creating a safe space to share experiences. By building a supportive community among Jewish peers, participants gain tools to acknowledge and respond to antisemitism, along with guidance on seeking support when needed.

Event Details
Join Golda Meir House Museum Executive Director, Lena Fishman, in a unique behind-the-scenes discussion of Golda, a biographical thriller and astounding portrayal of the fourth prime minister of the State of Israel battling for the survival of her nation during the Yom Kippur War. Historically, this moment has often been portrayed as Golda’s downfall. However, in this triumphant film, the historical record is reexamined to accurately reflect Golda Meir to be one of 20th Century’s most remarkable leaders, her unwavering strength, and her tremendous capacity to be not only the toughest in the room but also the most empathetic.
This program will reveal little-known stories about the creation of the film with information that comes directly from Golda’s grandchildren, the screenwriter, director, and actors Helen Mirren and Liev Schrieber. The discussion will also cover Golda’s inspirational time as a runaway teenager in Denver and the amusing and accidental way this impactful moment makes its way into the film.
It is encouraged but not required to watch the film before attending the program. You can find access to the film here.
In addition, audiences will be sent a link to watch the new documentary “Golda’s War Diaries” at home before the discussion of the feature film. Based on the archives released in 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of the war, “Golda’s War Diaries” tells the story of those fateful days in the Prime Minister’s own words and the words of those who were with her. A perfect complement to “Golda,” Yariv Mozer’s 73-minute documentary adds critical context to the feature film. Watch a clip here.
Lena Fishman is the Executive Director of the Golda Meir House Museum on the Auraria Campus in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Denver and after twenty years of teaching, Lena became the Strategic Partnerships Manager in the Office of Community Engagement at the Colorado Office of the Attorney General where she worked on statewide initiatives for students, teachers, and older adults. In the summer of 2021, Lena was recruited to revive the Golda Meir House and turn it into a museum dedicated to women’s empowerment that stands proudly against antisemitism and hatred of any kind. Lena is honored to teach visitors about the inspirational part that the state of Colorado played in Golda Meir’s lifelong work to make the State of Israel a reality.

Zionism and Kabbalah (a new series, and approach to teaching Space / Where are you?)
The kabbalists declare: ‘’every place (and moment, and soul) is filled with Divine Glory.” If so, what’s the deal with Zionism, the attachment to the land of Israel and the obsession with Jerusalem (and Shabbat, and the Rebbe)? This new series seeks to understand Zionism and the Love of Israel through the lens of Kabbalah – delving deeply into the metaphor of ‘exile and return,’ as well as the principles and practices of TIKUN, engaging the particular (one place) in order to access and repair the universal (One and Place/Makom).
Classes are offered in-person and virtually through Zoom
Cost is $325 for 10-week course

Event Details
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum was created to educate and remember the Holocaust, but also to bear witness and prevent genocide around the world. The Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide works to alert the national conscience, influence policymakers, stimulate worldwide action to prevent or halt acts of genocide or related crimes against humanity and advance justice and accountability. The Center seeks to put a spotlight on communities that are neglected, and that are experiencing or at risk of mass atrocities. In doing so, to do for communities today what was not done for the Jews of Europe during the Holocaust.
Naomi Kikoler is the Director of the Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide. She will be in conversation with Lindsay Kaplan about the Center’s work and how they prevent tragedies around the world. Naomi is a leading expert and strategist on mass atrocity prevention, international human rights advocacy, and human rights law.
This presentation will also be available via Livestream.
Presented by Lindsay and Gregg Kaplan in partnership with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Ilona Irene Rosenschein Holocaust Education Fund at the Boulder JCC.

STOCKHOLM: Special Screening and Discussion with Screenwriter Noa Yedlin
Life after death wasn’t supposed to be this funny
Just days before potentially fulfilling his lifelongambition, a leading contender for this year’s Nobel Prize in Economics is found dead in his bed. His four closest friends, who have known him for the past 50 years, make an extraordinary decision: what if they could hide his death for five days, allowing him to “die” with an extraordinary honor to his name? What seems like a relatively simple task quickly turns into an overwhelmingly complicated challenge.
In an age when people live longer, Stockholm offers a refreshing perspective on this fascinating age group. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Noa Yedlin, Stockholm’s dark humor breaks stereotypes and conventional assumptions. The four septuagenarians’ friendships, family, loyalty, professionalism, love, and lust are all put to the test –and the results are not what we may imagine…
Noa Yedlin is a multiple award-winning Israeli author and screenwriter whose work has been praised for its black comedy and incisive take on everyday Israeli reality. She is the author of several best-selling novels, including the smash hit Stockholm. Published at the end of 2023 and translated into English by Man Booker International prize-winner Jessica Cohen, Stockholm has been hailed as “a seriously funny take on death and dying” (Kirkus) and “a deviously clever black comedy” (Publishers Weekly).
Stockholm Season 1, Episodes 1-2 will be screened in the theater, followed by an in-person discussion with Noa Yedlin. Ticketholders will receive a link to stream Episodes 3-4 at home.
The Annual Dr. Irwin E. and Sandra Vinnik Evening of Jewish Culture is presented by the DU Center for Judaic Studies.
Tickets ($15 / $12) can be purchased through Denver Film at bit.ly/cjs-stockholm.

We will take a look at some of our own Torah scrolls, have a chance to hold scribing tools, witness Rabbi Bec cut and use a quill, and participate in a writing workshop. From making observations to experimenting with tools to trying our own hands at Hebrew calligraphy, adults and children alike will have a chance to experience the tactile wonder of Torah. Program is designed for adults and children ages 6 and up.
Snacks will be served.
Childcare for younger children provided upon request.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Rabbi Bec Richman (she/her) is a mama, soferet (Torah scribe), and potter who serves on the faculty of the Jewish Studio Project. Her art and facilitation are rooted in the belief that creativity is inherently accessible, healing, and liberatory. A graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, Bec lives in Cleveland Heights, OH with her partner and kiddos.
Rabbi Richman joins our community for the weekend of March 8-10 for a scribal artist residency. Together, we will learn about the role of women in scribing sacred texts, the exacting and expansive work of scribes, the practicalities of writing and repairing sacred texts, and the spiritual connections between scribing and our daily lives.

Part 1 of the series
Antisemitism is not new and unfortunately is on the rise across the world. Our Jewish community continues to educate and equip ourselves (and our children) with the tools to recognize, fight, and work to prevent antisemitism. Denver JDS is proud to bring renowned Holocaust scholar, Brendan Murphy, to Denver for two nights of study on “Why Always the Jews”: A two-part multimedia look at the long and tragic history of antisemitism. Through images, texts, and historical data, Mr. Murphy presents a compelling lecture that shows the truth about antisemitism in our time and ages past. Adults and high school students alike will find much to learn from this series. You can register (quickly) by clicking this link: https://www.denverjds.org/why-the-jews-event-24.
Mr Murphy has taught history for 30 years at The Marist School, an independent Catholic college preparatory school in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Murphy has received numerous awards for his work including: the Outstanding Educator Award (Anne Frank Center in New York), the Abe Goldstein Human Relations Award and Unsung Hero Award (Anti-Defamation League), Goizueta Chair of Excellence Award (Marist School), Faber-McKinley-Stadler Award, the Frank Hagan Memorial Award, the Distinguished Service Award (Georgia Independent School Association), the Educator of the Year (University of Notre Dame), and in 2009 and 2016 the Georgia Outstanding Educator of the Year (Georgia Commission on the Holocaust). Mr Murphy is also a Museum Teacher Fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, and a Lerner Fellow at the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous in New York.
The event is generously sponsored by the Sonenreich and Morris Families, and hosted in the Main Sanctuary at BMH-BJ.
Space is limited and tickets are required. This is a two-part event, the first part taking place on March 11th, 2024 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM, and the second part taking place on March 12th, 2024 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Your registration will include both evenings.

The Boulder JCC is delighted to present an entertaining evening with legendary community educator Morah Yehudis Fishman. Engage in an author talk on the powerful work of everyday spirituality, Garden of Time, as she gives us her take on the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s famous challenge to make our own birthdays more meaningful: one hundred essays, one for each of the first hundred years of a person’s life. Her work deals with the spiritual challenges of aging, our changing roles and relationships, and the spiritual numerology that hides behind the number.
Take part in a book signing with light refreshments after the author talk.
We invite readers to get an up-close sneak peek of the book’s wisdom and art; by inputting your age via this link, you can not only generate a unique mandala from the book, but also a personalized blessing corresponding to that particular year.
About the Author: Morah Yehudis Fishman has been teaching Torah and Chassidic writings for over fifty years to students of all ages and backgrounds, both on the East Coast and the Midwest. She has been a director of several Jewish organizations in Santa Fe and Colorado. Fishman is also the author of many articles and poetry on a wide variety of Jewish topics that have been printed in many publications and also are available online on various sites such as Chabad.org, Kabbalah online, Intermountain Jewish News, Boulder Jewish News, and Deuteronomy Press.

Workshop: Artificial Intelligence…How It Will Impact You & Your Future Healthcare with CT Lin, MD & Matthew DeCamp, MD (CU Anschutz Internal Medicine Department)
First 50 attendees receive a gift!
Research is one way you can make a difference!
Did you know older adults are underrepresented in clinical research – the type of research that leads to new ways to prevent, detect and treat health conditions? Consequently, healthcare providers often lack information to guide their care of older adults.
Meet Older Adult Research Specialists – older adults who are dedicated to increasing the inclusion of older adults in research.
- Test out new innovations in aging, such a SteadiPlay – a device that makes balance training for fall prevention fun. Through user testing, you can provide feedback that can improve the products of research for older adults.
- Learn about studies actively enrolling older adults in groundbreaking research on topics that range from exercise in older adults to healthy brain aging. Learn how to participate in CU Anschutz research studies on health topics online.
- Enjoy beverages, bagels & schmoozing with other participants!
Whatever you do, we hope you will have fun connecting with other participants learning about ways that research is transforming the way we age and how we think about aging.
Register by March 4.
Questions: call Rebecca @ 720.382.7848 or RGershten@KavodSeniorLife.org
All attendees will be entered to win an Echo Dot, Sonic Electronic Toothbrush or SKG Smart Watch
Co-sponsored event by Kavod on the Road and CU Anschutz Multidisciplinary Center on Aging.

Registration is required

Kabbalah Experience and Rooted Expansion are inviting you to join in this unique collaboration between master kabbalist Dr. David Sanders and embodied spiritual pioneer Jenna Sezionale Basilicato on a 13 week journey this Spring through the Tree of Life. As a certified Tree of Life practitioner, you will come into greater wholeness enabling you to serve, teach, and facilitate with greater Presence. We will explore the Tree of Life energy system through the framework of our bodies. This embodied wisdom will illuminate the flow of energy that moves from both unseen to seen reality and from the finite to the infinite. When the flow of energy is understood and realized, awareness and agency are unlocked, enabling the possibilities of manifestation and the freedom of liberation. The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us, as above so below, as within so without. Balance will be an essential part of our journey as the Tree of Life models the practice of finding wholeness through the holding of polarities. Holding opposites enlarges our containers to have more honest and direct relationships with all aspects of ourselves, others, and the world we are constantly creating

Explore what we chose to reveal and what wants to be concealed through mask-making. By putting on the mask, which is an act of revelation, we have the freedom to discover aspects of ourselves that we may not be able to without the mask.
Join in text study, mask-making, reflective writing, and movement with Rabbi Eva Sax-Boulder. No experience is needed, most materials will be provided. Please bring the following items to this class:
– Journal
– Pen
– Specific images you may want to incorporate (pictures, magazine clippings, etc.)
Rabbi Eva Sax-Bolder served as the Rabbi of The Shul of New York until moving to Boulder in the summer of 2021. She currently serves as the head of spiritual direction for the ALEPH Ordination Program and maintains a private practice as a spiritual companion. Rabbi Eva has facilitated Wise Aging groups in synagogue and community settings for many years, integrating aspects of her training in meditation, mindfulness, and the expressive arts.

The current war between Israel and Hamas is a defining moment in the Middle East. As the world grapples with the escalating conflict, understanding the core issues becomes vital. Are we fully aware of what fuels this war? What led us to this critical juncture? Are we heading towards an expanding multi-front war? How does the Arab world view this war? What does “the day after” look like? What implications does it hold for the region? What are the lessons for the West?
In this unique briefing, we will unravel the complexities of this crucial chapter with clear, in-depth, contextualized, and holistic analysis. This distinct apolitical briefing provides a nuanced contextualization of this moment in the histories of Israel, Palestinians, and the Middle East, as well as guides us through the labyrinth of events and their potential aftermath.
A livestream option will be available.
Avi Melamed is a former Israeli Intelligence Official and Senior Arab Affairs Advisor. Founder of Inside The Middle East (ITME), an apolitical non-partisan educational non-profit institute. Author of three books on the region, his recent book is Inside The Middle East | Entering a New Era (2022). He is also the author, producer, and host of the newly released documentary series on Jerusalem, The Seam Line, a five-part docuseries exploring the many layers of the conflict in and over Jerusalem.
This program is supported by an Israel Engagement Grant from JEWISHcolorado and in partnership with and sponsored through JCC Association.

Who Are You?: In this first semester of Inner Transformation you are challenged to strip away your previous understandings of who you are and explore the relationship between your outer selves, inner selves and your essence. The Kabbalah teachings have a profound interest in revealing the masks (ie. selves, identifications, roles), you wear to ensure that you can answer the question: Are you wearing the mask or is the mask wearing you? What was oblivious now becomes obvious.

A key to consciousness in Kabbalah is the Tree of Life, a visual map of how infinite and finite flow into and from each other. We enter places, form relationships and pursue projects often with little understanding of how they come about, their meaning and the relevance of seeing beyond what manifests. In this introduction to the Tree of Life we learn about and then practice incorporating this system of energy flow in all our interactions.

The national bestseller from one of our country’s most prominent rabbis, an inspiring book about the power of community based on one of her most impactful sermons.
In a time of loneliness and isolation, social rupture and alienation, what will it take to mend our broken hearts and rebuild our society?
Sharon Brous—a leading American rabbi—makes the case that the spiritual work of our time, as instinctual as it is counter-cultural, is to find our way to one other in celebration, in sorrow, and in solidarity. To show up for each other in moments of joy and pain, vulnerability and possibility, to invest in relationships of shared purpose and build communities of care.
Integrating the wisdom of Kabbalah into the text, we will explore this book and its lessons to manifest greater connection and meaning in our lives.

Tikkun Olam: How do we put into practice the vision of a greater consciousness put forward by the Kabbalists? Tikkun Olam- the repair of the world- assumes that there is a need to address the imbalances created by the human narrative and actualize social change. We will look at those who are advocating and implementing change globally and locally which inspire us to commit to changes we can make in our lives- individually, with family, and in our communities.

The early Kabbalah focused on the Hebrew letters and language and how this code underlies creation. The beauty of the letters is expressed through their meaning, shape, name and numerical value. The Hebrew letters are containers for the energies of time, including the months of the year and the 12 Spiritual Senses of Soul explained in Sefer Yetzirah (The book of Formation).

Musar offers a framework and a toolkit for translating the philosophical wisdom of kabbalah into a personalized, ongoing spiritual discipline. This course engages participants in the study and practice of “Counting the Omer,” an ancient tradition that frames the seven weeks between the holidays of Passover (celebrating the pursuit of freedom) to Shavuot (celebrating loving commitment) as daily and weekly spiritual discipline designed to achieve positive personal transformation. Join Rabbi Jamie on this journey through the sefirot of Kabbalah’s Tree of Life and the corresponding midot of Musar’s program for moral and spiritual growth.

And this history of Jewish humor is chock full of examples of schlemiels and the women who love them. Join University of Denver professor Adam Rovner for an interactive talk that describes the how Jewish men and women are portrayed in American culture, and what these images tell us about ourselves.

By 1860, there were thriving Jewish communities across the United States both in the North and South. With the outbreak of hostilities in 1861, Jewish women joined their respective sides and offered their services as nurses, spies, and smugglers, and formed soldiers’ aid societies. Professor Tish Richard returns to share the experiences of Jewish women during the war as they suffered privations and endured separation from their husbands, brothers, and fathers who enlisted. In their war work they provided for their men, their causes and fought anti-Semitic attitudes thereby proving in the North their Jewish Union loyalty and in the South their Jewish Confederate loyalty. $5

During this 4-week “Mindful Aging” group, explore the opportunities and challenges we face as we reflect on the past year and transition into the High Holidays with Rabbi Eva Sax-Boulder. Where have we come and what intentions do we bring into the new year? Open to all those who identify as female age 60 . It is strongly recommended to buy the required reading Wise Aging before the start of the group.
Topics will include tshuva – asking and offering forgiveness; reflecting on what this time in life means – letting go and embracing the new reality; setting intentions for living more mindfully, joyfully and compassionately as part of the aging journey. Together we will explore using mindfulness practices like journaling, meditation, art expression, study, and sharing as tools for connecting to ourselves and others.
Rabbi Eva Sax-Bolder served as the Rabbi of The Shul of New York until moving to Boulder in the summer of 2021. She currently serves as the Rosh Hashpa’ah, head of spiritual direction for the ALEPH Ordination Program, and maintains a private practice as a spiritual companion. Rabbi Eva has facilitated Wise Aging groups in synagogue and community settings for many years, integrating aspects of her training in meditation, mindfulness, mussar and the expressive arts.

“Sha-bbat, Sha-lom, Hay!” Join us on the First Friday, November through May, for a Farmside Shabbat Sing. We’ll sing Shabbat songs, read a story, explore the farm, and welcome Shabbat with the blessings of the candles, challah, and grape juice. Celebrate the songs and traditions in an open, inclusive, and accessible environment. Everyone is welcome but geared toward kids 0-5 and their caregivers.
We will plan to be outside just east of the barn or in the Greenhouse unless the weather makes those spaces inaccessible. In the event that we can’t be on the farm, we will email you Thursday evening and let you know to meet in the JCC library.
Advance registration is required once for the November through May series.
