In our Level I Soul class, we explore how the energy of two woman facing each other helps to frame our understanding of the concept of Kabbalah as a study of parallels. This summer, we will dive deeper into this notion. Where else do we find this phrase in the Torah? In what other ways is the feminine aspect of the Divine taught in Jewish mystical tradition? From the Shechinah, to other feminine aspects of the sefirot, we will elevate female scholars, voices and perspectives in our study of Transformative Kabbalah. All are welcome.

Mystical Hebrew Letters: The early Kabbalah focused on the Hebrew letters and language and how this code underlies creation. The beauty of the letters is expressed through their meaning, shape, name and numerical value. The Hebrew letters are containers for the energies of time, including the months of the year and the 12 Spiritual Senses of Soul explained in Sefer Yetzirah (The book of Formation).

“A dream not interpreted is like a letter not read.” This quote is not from Freud or Jung but from the Zohar, the classic medieval Kabbalah text connecting dreams and our spiritual growth. We spend an average of 9 years dreaming. What do our dreams reflect to us of our experience? How are dreams guides for our emotional and spiritual development? Come and see the significance of dreams. Journaling and sharing your dreams helps you apply the Kabbalah dream framework.

As above, so below. For centuries, mystics of all kinds have looked at the planets and constellations in the heavens as a mirror, reflecting to them an unseen reality. In this course, we will dive into the constellations and uncover the connections between Kabbalah and astrology, attuning ourselves to the sky above. Rooted in Sefer Yetzirah, “The Book of Formation”, this course will focus on the astrological signs and explore their hidden connections between ourselves and the world around us. Let us journey into the language of the stars so that we may reflect their light into our world.

Event Details
A key to consciousness in Kabbalah is the Tree of Life, a visual map of how infinite and finite flow into and from each other. We enter places, form relationships and pursue projects often with little understanding of how they come about, their meaning and the relevance of seeing beyond what manifests. In this introduction to the Tree of Life we learn about and then practice incorporating this system of energy flow in all our interactions.

Whether you “believe in” God or not, you have a set of prominent images or metaphors that you associate with God and either reject, embrace, or try to ignore. What are they? Have they evolved over your lifetime, and if so, how?
Among the great contributions of Kabbalah, we can count an expanded repertoire of metaphors with which we might engage and relate to various aspects of godliness, such as God as Lover, God as Everything, and God as Nothingness. In a new book called “God is Here,” Rabbi Toba Spitzer continues this effort to diversify the menu of divine metaphors, including God as Water, God as Cloud, God as Fire. With R. Toba as our guide (and hopefully a special guest), we will explore elements from the natural world as symbols of divinity and experiment with them as tools for personal and collective transformation.

Event Details
During this 4-week session, we will explore the opportunities and challenges that we face as we reflect on the past year and transition into the High Holidays. Where have we come from and what intentions do we bring into the new year? Topics will include asking and offering forgiveness (tshuva), reflecting on what this time in life means, letting go and embracing new reality, setting intentions for living more mindfully, joyfully and compassionately as part of the aging journey. Together we will explore using mindfulness practices, journaling, meditation, art expression, study, and sharing as tools for connecting to ourselves and others.
Rabbi Eva Sax-Bolder served as the Rabbi of The Shul of New York until moving to Boulder in the summer of 2021. She currently serves as the Rosh Hashpa’ah, head of spiritual direction for the ALEPH Ordination Program, and maintains a private practice as a spiritual companion. Rabbi Eva has facilitated Wise Aging groups in synagogue and community settings for many years, integrating aspects of her training in meditation, mindfulness, mussar and the expressive arts.
Open to all those who identify as female age 60 . It is strongly recommended to buy the required reading Wise Aging before the start of this session.

In this series of seven classes, Rabbi Jamie Arnold will facilitate this transformative group as we 1) study Alan Morinis’ book, “Everyday Holiness: The Jewish Spiritual Path of Mussar;” 2) focus on the qualities of enthusiasm, silence, and generosity; and with them 3) grow the soul and its capacity for sacred service.

Tashlich is a Rosh Hashanah ritual in which Jews begin the new year by symbolically casting off last year’s sins by tossing pebbles or bread crumbs into a body of water. In 2016, the college division of Repair the Sea (Scubi Jew®️) at Eckerd College conceived the idea of hosting a Reverse Tashlich, a beach cleanup to remove human “sins” from the water.
Every year since the program has expanded as new communities have joined and removed thousands of pounds of debris from waterfront locations around the world as part of their High Holiday observance. This year the Boulder JCC is partnering with Inland Ocean Coalition and the Colorado Jewish Climate Action (CJCA) to host a family-friendly creek cleanup in Boulder. Exact location details will be provided a before the event to those that register.

Join us in-person or virtually for the ReelAbilities Film Festival screening of Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution, a kick-off to ReelAbilities Film Festival. This feel-good documentary recounts the ties of a Catskills summer camp to American disability rights activism in the 1970s.
A groundbreaking summer camp for teens with disabilities proves so inspiring that a group of its alumni join the radical disability rights movement to advocate for historic legislation changes. Crip Camp is the story of one group of people and captures one moment in time.
In the early 1970s, teenagers with disabilities faced a future shaped by isolation, discrimination, and institutionalization. Camp Jened, a ramshackle camp “for the handicapped” (a term no longer used) in the Catskills, exploded those confines. Jened was their freewheeling Utopia, a place with summertime sports, smoking, and make-out sessions awaiting everyone, and campers experienced liberation and full inclusion as human beings. Their bonds endured as many migrated West to Berkeley, California — a hotbed of activism where friends from Camp Jened realized that disruption, civil disobedience, and political participation could change the future for millions.
Director James Lebrecht will present a virtual talkback immediately proceeding the screening.
Please join us for a pre-program ReelAbilites Film Festival launch party and social with light fare and refreshments!

Event Details
The Zohar (Book of Radiance), authored in Spain in the 13th century, is the classic work of Kabbalah. It is a mystical interpretation of the Torah text. The authoritative translation of the Zohar from Aramaic to English took Daniel Matt eighteen years to complete (1998-2016). The Zohar is a tapestry of biblical interpretation, with radical use of metaphor and stories highlighting the saintly pursuits of the main characters. We will study passages from the Zohar which are most relevant to personal spiritual growth. The format of our study will alternate weekly between class and paired study (with guided questions and commentary).

Who Are You?: In this first semester of Inner Transformation you are challenged to strip away your previous understandings of who you are and explore the relationship between your outer selves, inner selves and your essence. The Kabbalah teachings have a profound interest in revealing the masks (ie. selves, identifications, roles), you wear to ensure that you can answer the question: Are you wearing the mask or is the mask wearing you? What was oblivious now becomes obvious.

This course will be an act of defiance and an inquiry into the balance between what we “let in and keep out” (the expansiveness and contraction of boundaries). We will read from the aforementioned banned books and survey Kabbalistic and other Jewish texts that were banned in their time. The depth of our study will examine and question what we ban from our “reading lists“ either because of the ideas presented or due to our distaste or disgust of the author.

Join Dr. Adam Rovner as he tells the story of the Jew Who Would Be King. This improbable story of one of the nineteenth-century’s most intrepid and controversial explorers, Nathaniel Isaacs, a British Jew who helped the legendary King Shaka establish the Zulu nation. Isaacs was an English merchant, adventurer, and author who published a celebrated account of his shipwreck and survival among the Zulu in “Travels and Adventures in Eastern Africa” (1836). Isaacs’ two-volumes provided readers with the first eyewitness account of the legendary warrior-king Shaka and of life in the Zulu Kingdom. Much of what we know—or think we know—about Shaka still derives from Travels and Adventures. The teenaged Isaacs bravely fought for Shaka against the King’s rivals, was injured in battle, and was later awarded a chieftaincy and a grant of land by the Zulu leader. Today we may find it ironic that a European Jewish writer invented the myth of Shaka Zulu, a Black African icon, but in the Victorian era the connection would have made perfect sense. The prevailing pseudoscience of the time concluded that Jews and Africans shared the same imagined racial essence. And Isaacs found himself propelled to the furthest reaches of Empire precisely because he had been born a poor Jew in England with few opportunities for advancement.

Join four dynamic front-range congregations on the banks of picturesque Lower Bear Creek to celebrate the Jewish New Year on Tuesday morning, September 17. Share music, meditation, and stories, hear the sounds of the shofar [ram’s horn], and toss some atoning breadcrumbs for the ritual of tashlich with members of Congregation Beth Evergreen (Evergreen), B’nai Havurah (Denver), Temple Micah (Denver), and B’nai Chaim (Morrison) at O’Fallon Park.
All are welcome. Please PRE-REGISTER, prepare to be outside in the sun (and/or rain), and BRING YOUR OWN SEATING (e.g. camping chairs), and bread crumgs (or pebbles) to toss. The meeting spot is on the West side of the creek over the bridge behind the last parking area..
Back by popular demand, this is the second annual joint (second day) Rosh Hashanah inter-congregational gathering. Leadership of the service will be shared, and participation encouraged. Facilitating the service will be Rabbi Jamie Arnold, Laura Berman, and Penny Drucker from Congregation Beth Evergreen; Rabbi Katie Mizrahi and Hal Aqua from B’nai Havurah; and Rabbi Adam Morris from Temple Micah. The service will revolve around the calls of the shofar and the ritual of tashlich, casting bread crumbs (as symbolic representations of our regrets from the past year) into running water, augmented with great music, guided reflection, and the beauty of the natural world.
An optional hike will run concurrently with the morning service, leaving at 10:00 am and returning in time for Tashlich.

Learn concrete Jewish spiritual tools to confront, subvert, and heal implicit and internalized racism within ourselves and others, supporting the collective organizing, advocacy, and service efforts to dismantle racism systemically.
Efforts to dismantle racism are often composed of education, advocacy, and systemic change. These efforts are not enough —it’s crucial that we also do the inner work necessary to change our habits of mind, body, and spirit to wholly dismantle racism. We have ancestral wisdom available to support this change. Mussar is the Jewish spiritual discipline designed to integrate what the head understands with what the heart feels through daily practice. Emerge from this program with a regular spiritual practice and a set of concrete tools to support your antiracism efforts.
This course was developed by Yehudah Webster and Rabbi David Jaffe of The Inside Out Wisdom and Action (IOWA) Project and the Kirva Institute, a network of activists, educators, and spiritual leaders in the Jewish community that supports activists in exploring Jewish spiritual wisdom and developing Jewish spiritual practice. Learn more about this course and their work at InsideOutWisdomAndAction.org

Mussar offers a framework and a toolkit for translating the wisdom of kabbalah (specifically the sefirot of the Tree of Life) into a personalized, ongoing spiritual discipline – harnessing the midot in service of others. In this series of nine classes, Rabbi Jamie Arnold will facilitate this transformative group using two primary sources: 1) An introduction to mussar by Alan Morinis called “Everyday Holiness: The Jewish Spiritual Path of Mussar;” 2) a new book by Rabbi Toba Spitzer that explores metaphors for the Divine from nature through a mussar lens called “God is Here: Reimagining the Divine.” The qualities we will focus on in order to grow our capacity for sacred service will be silence (sound), compassion and trust (rock).

As above, so below. For centuries, mystics of all kinds have looked at the planets and constellations in the heavens as a mirror, reflecting to them an unseen reality. In this course, we will dive into the seven ancient luminaries and uncover the connections between Kabbalah and astrology, attuning ourselves to the sky above. Rooted in Sefer Yetzirah, “The Book of Formation”, this course will focus on the astrological planets and explore their hidden connections between ourselves and the world around us.
