A second-term member, Rep. Ritchie Torres has quickly emerged as an outspoken champion of the U.S.-Israel relationship. In April 2024, Torres voted for supplemental security assistance for the Jewish state. He also co-sponsored and supported a resolution affirming U.S. support for Israel after Hamas’ barbaric attack on October 7th and stated:

“Israelis are doing precisely what we, as Americans, would do if we found ourselves under sudden attack: defending themselves. I unequivocally stand with Israel as it rightly defends itself from Hamas, a terrorist organization that has long sought the destruction of the Jewish State.”

The Congressman has backed legislation imposing sanctions on people that aid efforts by the International Criminal Court to prosecute Americans or Israelis and backed a letter denouncing South Africa’s accusation of genocide against Israel before the International Court of Justice. Before October 7th, he also signed on to a bipartisan letter asking the Secretary of State to come up with a comprehensive strategy to address Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and support for terrorism with additional sanctions and diplomacy and joined another letter urging the House Appropriations Committee to reject any additional conditions on security assistance to Israel.

In February 2022, Congressman Torres traveled to Israel with AIPAC’s sister foundation and has returned several times since, including once since after the October 7 attack by Hamas. Congressman Torres is a member of the Committee on Financial Services and the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
