Event Details

Love reading? Passionate about social change? Interested in building community and discussing important issues relevant to Colorado? Join us for a monthly book club for those aged 20-45 centered around social justice topics. Each month, we will pick a book and together we will read, meet, and discuss the various social justice issues impacting our community. This book club is sponsored by Repair the World, a Jewish social justice organization.

November’s Read: The Refugee by Viet Thanh Nguyen. In his first short story collection, writer Nguyen, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 2016 for his novel THe Sympathizer, takes a look at how it feels and what it means to be a refugee. The characters in his stories are mainly Vietnamese citizens and their families, forced out of their country at the end of the Vietnam War, trying to make a home in a strange new land.

Our first book club will be at a home in Platt Park–it will be hosted outside (weather permitting). Snacks, wine, and good company/conversation will be provided. Please join the meetup event to sign up and receive the address: https://www.meetup.com/jewish-social-justice-book-club/events/281211364/
