First they banned Gender Queer; And I did not speak out
Because I was gendered
Then they banned the Hill We Climb; And I did not speak out
Because I was white
Then they banned Maus; And I spoke out
Because it was , thankfully, not too late.
This course will be an act of defiance and an inquiry into the balance between what we “let in and keep out” (the expansiveness and contraction of boundaries). We will read from the aforementioned banned books and survey Kabbalistic and other Jewish texts that were banned in their time. The depth of our study will examine and question what we ban from our “reading lists“ either because of the ideas presented or due to our distaste or disgust of the author.
Free intro classes are approximately 1 hour long and are a preview of the 10-Week course
