Boulder JCC: Jazz Concert - Joe Alterman Trio

Jazz pianist Joe Alterman and his fabulous trio will be performing American Songbook standards from George Gershwin to Stevie Wonder, original compositions, and special tributes to his piano heroes, including Oscar Peterson, Ramsey Lewis, Ahmad Jamal, and Les McCann.

In addition to his work as an accomplished piano player, Joe is the Executive Director of Neranenah Concert & Culture Series, which celebrates Jewish Contributions to Music & The Arts. Passionate about the roots of Jewish music, Alterman will be weaving in aspects of his “Sounds of Jewish America” program into this performance, exploring Jewish contributions to 20th-century American popular music and sharing personal, fun, fascinating stories and insights into the music of these great artists.

NYU graduate with a Masters in Jazz Piano, Atlanta native Joe Alterman expresses a certain upbeat naivete, with a broad smile and bright eyes that make you feel welcome. One would not guess that this is a man hailed by greats; Ramsey Lewis describes his piano playing as ‘a joy to behold’, Les McCann states ‘as a man and musician he is already a giant.
