Event Details

Come together for our final program of the scribal residency with Rabbi Bec Richman for a hands-on, participatory exploration of scribal work. We will take a look at some of our own Torah scrolls, have a chance to hold scribing tools, witness Rabbi Bec cut and use a quill, and participate in a writing workshop. From making observations to experimenting with tools to trying our own hands at Hebrew calligraphy, adults and children alike will have a chance to experience the tactile wonder of Torah. Program is designed for adults and children ages 6 and up.

Snacks will be served.

Childcare for younger children provided upon request.

Rabbi Bec Richman (she/her) is a mama, soferet (Torah scribe), and potter who serves on the faculty of the Jewish Studio Project. Her art and facilitation are rooted in the belief that creativity is inherently accessible, healing, and liberatory. A graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, Bec lives in Cleveland Heights, OH with her partner and kiddos.

Rabbi Richman joins our community for the weekend of March 8-10 for a scribal artist residency. Together, we will learn about the role of women in scribing sacred texts, the exacting and expansive work of scribes, the practicalities of writing and repairing sacred texts, and the spiritual connections between scribing and our daily lives.
