Event Details
Join us for an evening where we put politics aside and connect with the rich Jewish culture that has evolved in Israel, the great richness we are so proud of and also the challenges that come with it.
Being a melting pot of Jewish culture from all corners of the earth Israeli society has become a place where ancient Jewish traditions are flourishing and new expressions of them are being created. These exciting new blends of cultures and cultural innovations did not come without challenges. Many Jewish diasporas arrived in Israel in very challenging circumstances and echoes of those still resonate in tensions in today’s society.
We will be welcoming Yoni Battat, Jewish musician who is deeply rooted in both his Iraqi and Polish ancestry, and especially the rich musical traditions that come from these cultures. He delights in sharing traditional melodies alongside his own original music, inspired and informed by the Ashkenazi and Mizrahi music of generations past.
This event is a collaboration between the JCC Denver, JNFuture, Olami Denver, Hillel of DU and YAD together with the JEWISHcolorado Israel & Overseas center and is generously supported by the Jewish Agency for Israel.
Lights snacks and drinks will be served in the JCC Denver Social Hall.

Actress and scholar Judy Winnick will portray Irena Sendler.
As a Polish Catholic social worker during WWII, Irena Sendler risked her life to save others. She was the leader of the children’s section of Zegota, Council for Aid to Jews, and part of the Polish underground. With ingenuity, calmness and courage, she was responsible for rescuing 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto. Irena never thought of herself as a hero, and said she simply did what needed to be done, and followed her heart.
Irena was born in 1910 and died in Warsaw in 2008, at the age of 98. During her lifetime she received many awards for her humanitarian work. In addition to being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, Irena was recognized by the state of Israel as one of the “Righteous Among Nations” at Yad Vashem.
