Jewish day schools are essential to a thriving Jewish future. They strengthen Jewish identity, build community, and ensure continuity across generations. That’s why our community is deeply committed to doing everything we can to keep Jewish K–12 education affordable and accessible for families.
The new Federal Education Tax Credit Scholarship Program creates an important opportunity to advance that goal. Beginning January 1, 2027, taxpayers will be eligible for a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit (up to $1,700) for contributions to qualified Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). Those SGOs, in turn, will provide scholarships that families can use to help cover tuition, school supplies, and certain enrichment and after-school programs at both public and private schools.
Participation in the program requires states to opt in. The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) has been in ongoing conversation with the Polis Administration since last summer about the potential benefits of this program, and many in our community were pleased to see Colorado formally opt in this past week.
Key details about how the program will operate are still being finalized. We are awaiting federal regulations from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, followed by state-level implementation rules in Colorado. Although we do not yet have a timeline for that process, our community is already preparing and engaging to help shape strong, thoughtful implementation.
Nationally, Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) and Prizmah have made this work a top priority and are actively engaging federal policymakers. Here in Colorado, the JCRC will continue working with our Jewish day schools and engaging state leaders and other education stakeholders to ensure the program benefits Jewish students and students across Colorado.
This will be a coordinated, community-wide effort, and we look forward to sharing updates as more information becomes available.
