Shabbat Shalom: Steps on a Journey

Jun 16, 2022

For weeks on end, our Torah readings, including this week’s of Parashat Beha’alotcha, have covered an array of details about everything from holiday celebrations and the particulars of building the Holy Tabernacle, to the specifics of how Israel as an evolving nation of tribes shall gather, camp, and travel. And finally, Israel’s first embarkation from the sight of Revelation. These first steps begin a three-day journey to search out a resting place. Firsts steps in an unfolding story. Their story and ours.

Wednesday night, I had the honor of sharing the efforts of JEWISHcolorado, and of our community – efforts that have a direct link to the values and aspirations of those among Israel taking their first steps so long ago. Commitment to community. To education. To care for the elders. For the orphan. For the hungry and the stranger.  And the beginnings of a rich tapestry of culture that he been woven through the ages, across many lands. Traditions, values, and cultural dynamism that links us back in time and connects us to generations yet to come. It is the full optimism in our work and in our future that I wish to share this with you.

In strength, good health and joy.

Shabbat Shalom,
