NYLC Retreat FY23
Last month, six leaders from Colorado attended the Jewish Federations of North America’s National Young Leadership Cabinet (NYLC) Retreat in West Palm Beach, Florida. They were joined by other cohorts of Jewish leaders, JFNA professionals, and guests from nearly 50 communities across North America. The retreat focused on leadership, philanthropic giving, and communal belonging as well as digging deeper into the meaningful work of the Federation and how to bring that knowledge back to JEWISHcolorado. Plus, for the first time since 2019, our new first year members, Steve Paletz and Loren Knaster, were able to learn, connect, and share ideas across communities together in person for Cabinet orientation!

Being with over 200 like-minded young Jewish leaders provided a great opportunity for me to learn about best practices of other communities, while further deepening my personal connections and relationships.”
For many, Cabinet isn’t just a way to lead locally, but is a way to connect to spiritual and philanthropic leaders across North America and from around the world.
Through premiere travel experiences that include hands-on service opportunities and meeting with local and national leaders, Cabinet members get to engage with people who our work directly impacts. From trips to Israel, the UAE, and Budapest to meeting around the country as affinity groups, NYLC leaders are always looking for ways to meaningfully connect. Just a couple weeks ago, current members Ross Chotin and Gil Selinger Chaired and Vice-Chaired Cabinet’s 2022 Real Estate REtreat in Beaver Creek, CO, bringing together the biggest minds in real estate from around the United States.
So many Jewish leaders across Colorado got their start in NYLC, either recently or many years ago. From largely impactful entrepreneurs, to countless former Board Chairs of JEWISHcolorado, to the biggest names in philanthropy across the state, Cabinet alumni ambitiously and imaginatively lead us in shaping a bright future for Colorado’s Jewish community, and our current members are no exception. We are thrilled that many members of our current Colorado Chevre serve in a variety of leadership positions outside of Cabinet, including four members of JEWISHcolorado’s Board of Directors, our current Women’s Philanthropy Chair, and members of Young Adult Division (YAD) Executive Committee.
National Young Leadership Cabinet is JFNA’s premiere young leadership development program for connecting and educating the next generation of Jewish leaders and philanthropists. Members participate in a five-year curriculum that builds on a series of Jewish values that align with professional advancement.
