Event Details

Osi Sladek is a child survivor of the Holocaust. Born in Czechoslovakia, he survived the Holocaust in the Tatras mountains in the Slovakia/Poland region.  Prior to the beginning of WWII, Nazi Germany began it’s expansion and alliances in Europe.  In 1939 the Slovaks separated from the Czechs, and formed a new pro-Nazi government adopting Nuremberg type laws  called the “Codex Judaicus” to deal with the so-called “Jewish problem of Central Europe” and anti-Jewish laws were imposed upon the  Jews of Slovakia.  95,000 Slovakian Jews were sent to the death camps.  Of the Six Million Jews lost to the Holocaust, one and a a half million were children.

Mr. Sladek was the only child in his family to survive.
