Tikkun Olam: How do we put into practice the vision of a greater consciousness put forward by the Kabbalists? Tikkun Olam- the repair of the world- assumes that there is a need to address the imbalances created by the human narrative and actualize social change. We will look at those who are advocating and implementing change globally and locally which inspire us to commit to changes we can make in our lives- individually, with family, and in our communities.

The early Kabbalah focused on the Hebrew letters and language and how this code underlies creation. The beauty of the letters is expressed through their meaning, shape, name and numerical value. The Hebrew letters are containers for the energies of time, including the months of the year and the 12 Spiritual Senses of Soul explained in Sefer Yetzirah (The book of Formation).

The story of Passover is one of transitioning through the narrow straits—from the confines of slavery in Egypt to the open expanse of freedom on the other side. In preparation for this holiday, reflect on the narrow places in our own lives and what it might mean for us to “cry out” from where we are as an act of moving towards where we want to be.
Join through guided text study, art-making, reflective writing, and sharing in this experiential workshop with Rabbi Eva Sax-Boulder. This workshop is open to all with an open and curious heart. No experience is need and most materials will be provided. Please bring the following:
– Journal
– Pen
– Specific drawing or sketching supplies you prefer (paper will be provided)
Rabbi Eva Sax-Bolder served as the Rabbi of The Shul of New York until moving to Boulder in the summer of 2021. She currently serves as the head of spiritual direction for the ALEPH Ordination Program and maintains a private practice as a spiritual companion. Rabbi Eva has facilitated Wise Aging groups in synagogue and community settings for many years, integrating aspects of her training in meditation, mindfulness, and the expressive arts.

Event Details
Kabbalah Experience and Rooted Expansion are inviting you to join in this unique collaboration between master kabbalist Dr. David Sanders and embodied spiritual pioneer Jenna Sezionale Basilicato on a 13 week journey this Spring through the Tree of Life. As a certified Tree of Life practitioner, you will come into greater wholeness enabling you to serve, teach, and facilitate with greater Presence. We will explore the Tree of Life energy system through the framework of our bodies. This embodied wisdom will illuminate the flow of energy that moves from both unseen to seen reality and from the finite to the infinite. When the flow of energy is understood and realized, awareness and agency are unlocked, enabling the possibilities of manifestation and the freedom of liberation. The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us, as above so below, as within so without. Balance will be an essential part of our journey as the Tree of Life models the practice of finding wholeness through the holding of polarities. Holding opposites enlarges our containers to have more honest and direct relationships with all aspects of ourselves, others, and the world we are constantly creating

Who Are You?: In this first semester of Inner Transformation you are challenged to strip away your previous understandings of who you are and explore the relationship between your outer selves, inner selves and your essence. The Kabbalah teachings have a profound interest in revealing the masks (ie. selves, identifications, roles), you wear to ensure that you can answer the question: Are you wearing the mask or is the mask wearing you? What was oblivious now becomes obvious.

Event Details
Musar offers a framework and a toolkit for translating the philosophical wisdom of kabbalah into a personalized, ongoing spiritual discipline. This course engages participants in the study and practice of “Counting the Omer,” an ancient tradition that frames the seven weeks between the holidays of Passover (celebrating the pursuit of freedom) to Shavuot (celebrating loving commitment) as daily and weekly spiritual discipline designed to achieve positive personal transformation. Join Rabbi Jamie on this journey through the sefirot of Kabbalah’s Tree of Life and the corresponding midot of Musar’s program for moral and spiritual growth.

Event Details
A key to consciousness in Kabbalah is the Tree of Life, a visual map of how infinite and finite flow into and from each other. We enter places, form relationships and pursue projects often with little understanding of how they come about, their meaning and the relevance of seeing beyond what manifests. In this introduction to the Tree of Life we learn about and then practice incorporating this system of energy flow in all our interactions.

Writers, scholars, and comedians all point to a recognizable strain of “Jewish humor” that winds its way from the Hebrew Bible, to rabbinic commentaries, and through to today’s literary humorists and provocative stand-up comics. And this history of Jewish humor is chock full of examples of schlemiels and the women who love them. Join University of Denver professor Adam Rovner for an interactive talk that describes the how Jewish men and women are portrayed in American culture, and what these images tell us about ourselves. Professor Rovner’s talk, “Nervous Wrecks: Jewish Men and the Women Who Love Them,” focuses on stereotypes of Jewish masculinity, Jewish motherhood, and the non-Jewish temptresses. $5

The national bestseller from one of our country’s most prominent rabbis, an inspiring book about the power of community based on one of her most impactful sermons.
In a time of loneliness and isolation, social rupture and alienation, what will it take to mend our broken hearts and rebuild our society?
Sharon Brous—a leading American rabbi—makes the case that the spiritual work of our time, as instinctual as it is counter-cultural, is to find our way to one other in celebration, in sorrow, and in solidarity. To show up for each other in moments of joy and pain, vulnerability and possibility, to invest in relationships of shared purpose and build communities of care.
Integrating the wisdom of Kabbalah into the text, we will explore this book and its lessons to manifest greater connection and meaning in our lives.

With the outbreak of hostilities in 1861, Jewish women joined their respective sides and offered their services as nurses, spies, and smugglers, and formed soldiers’ aid societies. Professor Tish Richard returns to share the experiences of Jewish women during the war as they suffered privations and endured separation from their husbands, brothers, and fathers who enlisted. In their war work they provided for their men, their causes and fought anti-Semitic attitudes thereby proving in the North their Jewish Union loyalty and in the South their Jewish Confederate loyalty. $5

During this 4-week “Mindful Aging” group, explore the opportunities and challenges we face as we reflect on the past year and transition into the High Holidays with Rabbi Eva Sax-Boulder. Where have we come and what intentions do we bring into the new year? Open to all those who identify as female age 60 . It is strongly recommended to buy the required reading Wise Aging before the start of the group.
Topics will include tshuva – asking and offering forgiveness; reflecting on what this time in life means – letting go and embracing the new reality; setting intentions for living more mindfully, joyfully and compassionately as part of the aging journey. Together we will explore using mindfulness practices like journaling, meditation, art expression, study, and sharing as tools for connecting to ourselves and others.
Rabbi Eva Sax-Bolder served as the Rabbi of The Shul of New York until moving to Boulder in the summer of 2021. She currently serves as the Rosh Hashpa’ah, head of spiritual direction for the ALEPH Ordination Program, and maintains a private practice as a spiritual companion. Rabbi Eva has facilitated Wise Aging groups in synagogue and community settings for many years, integrating aspects of her training in meditation, mindfulness, mussar and the expressive arts.

Her 2016 landmark exhibition celebrated the extraordinary contributions of 12 (mostly unknown) female artists to the male-dominated movement we know as Abstract Expressionism. Event Details
Join us at Temple Sinai on Sunday, May 12th, as we unite to honor the memory of those who have bravely served and sacrificed for the Jewish State, as well as those lost to senseless acts of terrorism. In addition to commemorating these heroes, we will also recognize the enduring connection our community shares with Israel.
Yom HaZikaron, or Israeli Memorial Day, stands as a solemn occasion preceding Israel’s Independence Day, Yom Haatzmaut. It serves as a poignant reminder for Israelis and Jewish communities worldwide to honor the sacrifices of fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism.
This year, the significance of coming together in grief and respect is amplified as we mourn the devastating loss of countless lives, particularly on October 7th and since, within our Jewish community.
The connection between our community and Israel is profound, and it is essential to acknowledge and strengthen this bond.
On this day, Israelis pause their daily activities for a two-minute standstill, marked by blaring sirens, to collectively pay homage to the fallen. This ritual, established by law in 1963, has evolved into a deeply ingrained aspect of Israeli culture, resonating globally.
As part of our tribute, we are honored to host two special guests, Hadiya and Eldad, who will share poignant stories of courage and sacrifice, offering glimpses into the lives of those we honor this day.
If you wish to memorialize a friend or family member who was a fallen Israeli soldier or victim of terror, kindly reach out to Nelly Ben Tal at nbental@jewishcolorado.org.
Let us stand together in remembrance and solidarity.

The Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society and Beck Archives, together with the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver, look forward to the 30th Annual Heritage Award Dinner, which will be held this year on the evening of Monday, May 20th at BMH-BJ. This year, we will be honoring the legacy of Colorado Jewish photographers with the debut of the new documentary film, “More Than A Thousand Words: Colorado Jewish Photographers Over 175 Years.”
This year, the RMJHS Heritage Award pays tribute to three accomplished Jewish photographers: Robert Weinberg, Barbara Carpenter, and Gerald Mellman z”l.
The Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society (RMJHS), part of the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver, was founded in 1976. We partner with the Ira M. & Peryle Hayutin Beck Memorial Archives at DU to showcase the contributions of Jews to the development of the West, document the struggle against antisemitism in the region, and examine the ever-evolving dynamics of Jewish life in Colorado and the surrounding states.
Your financial support enables us to offer lectures, exhibits, digital resources, travel programs, and research opportunities to serve and educate the community. We invite you to explore our past, so you can build our future!

Enjoying coffee, tea, and chocolate wasn’t always so easy as a quick trip to Trader Joe’s or to the neighborhood café. These treats only became available for the wealthy in 16th-century Europe, a result of globalization and colonization that brought such luxury goods from the Americas, India, and Africa. As the pleasures of consumption took off, so did the visual and material culture related to these delicacies. In this one-hour presentation, we’ll look at the fine and decorative arts surrounding these substances, delighting in European and American paintings that depict the social and sensorial pleasures of imbibing, fine porcelain wares that saw many raised pinky fingers, and caricatures that lampoon these newfangled delights. Throughout the lecture, art historian Molly Medakovich will interrogate the colonial context of this visual and material history.

Mark Villarreal has been an Abstract painter for 40 years. This ten-year survey of work was inspired by his travels to Europe and Cuba, jazz standards from the 1950’s through the 1960‘s and Byzantine painting of the 13th -14th centuries. It is this eclectic framework, with the art of the Italian Renaissance at the center, that has provided him with a unique and individual vocabulary of abstraction. His compositions retain a unifying lyricism of line, while subsets of interrupted shapes hang in the balance. Shapes collide and are suspended within the picture plane, nearly submerged by overlays of color or visually obstructed by opaque color blocks that recede and come forward with a kinesthetic reflex.
Mark earned his BFA at The Kansas City Art Institute. Upon returning to his home in Colorado, Mark established an extensive exhibition record that includes the Denver Art Museum, The Dairy Arts Center, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art along with several commercial galleries in Denver and Santa Fe. His work is featured in private collections in Colorado and beyond. Mark has served on the The Dairy Art Center board for two years and the Boulder Arts Commission for 5 years, two of these years as the chair.
