The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), a program of JEWISHcolorado, is pleased to announce the 2022 Date with the State will take place on Wednesday, January 19, at the Consistory at the State Capitol in Denver. The event seeks to better inform the Jewish community about the State Legislature’s agenda in 2022.

This year’s Date with the State will feature a keynote address by Mark Oppenheimer, journalist, podcaster, and author of five books including his latest, Squirrel Hill: The Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting and the Soul of a Neighborhood.

“With our focus on legislation to support the security of houses of worship and nonprofits, we are excited to have Oppenheimer join us that morning to discuss his book about Squirrel Hill and his experience visiting there in the shadow of the Tree of Life attack,” said JEWISHcolorado External Affairs Director Joseph Dubroff.

Oppenheimer’s presentation will be followed by a panel of community leaders on safety and security threats, and attendees will have the opportunity to speak with legislators and their staff and hear remarks from Senate President Leroy Garcia and House Majority Leader Daneya Esgar.

The in-person event will kick off with a meet and greet with state legislators, along with a kosher breakfast.

The schedule will be as follows:

7:30 am | Legislator meet & greet, breakfast

8:20 am | Senate President & House Majority Leader, remarks

9:00 am | Mark Oppenheimer, keynote
Community leaders, safety & security panel
