Community Event Raised $2,200 for The Children’s Hospital East Pavilion Rec Center for Teen Patients Hosted by Congregation Beth Evergreen

  EVERGREEN, Colo. — After hundreds of guests took a virtual trip to Vegas during a casino night fundraiser, The Children’s Hospital of Denver hit the jackpot.  Hosted by Congregation Beth Evergreen with partial proceeds benefiting the hospital, the event raised $2,200 for Children’s East Pavilion – a new gymnasium which provides teen patients with a lively recreation center during their recoveries.

            “‘Vegas, Baby!’ helped fill the gym with sports equipment, from yoga mats and basketballs to weights and exercise balls, to give this therapeutic outlet its highest, healthiest potential,” said Iris Solomon, co-chair.

Aish Denver Becomes Jewish Community Foundation’s Tenth Partner Organization

The Jewish Community Foundation (JCF) recently announced that Aish Denver (Aish) has become its tenth partner organization. Under the partnership, Aish will house a new endowment fund at the JCF. The endowment is intended to provide a sustained source of funding for Aish’s operating and program expenses.

            Aish is in the midst of a Capital Campaign to raise funds for a new building which is scheduled to be constructed by November 2008. The Campaign includes opportunities for donors to create and name endowments that will be housed at the JCF.  As part of tbe partnership agreement, JCF staff will assist Rabbi Yaakov Meyer and other Aish representatives in facilitating these giving opportunities.

DU’S Certificate in Jewish Communal Service Program Awarded Prestigious Grant for Development of On-Site Education Program for Community Organizations

           The Certificate in Jewish Communal Service Program- collaboration between the Graduate School of Social Work and the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver- has been awarded a prestigious ignition grant from The Covenant Foundation in New York. The grant will be used to develop a traveling, interactive and innovative workshop program entitled A Taste of Jewish Leadership in Colorado. more

American Jewish Society for Service Appoints New Directors from Boulder and New Jersey

The American Jewish Society for Service has appointed Dr. Robert Brenner and Donna Chava Friedman as directors. 

Ms. Friedman is a student rabbi in the ALEPH Rabbinic Program, part of the Jewish Renewal movement and is interning in Boulder, Colo.  Donna returned to the United States from Jerusalem in June 2007 with her partner Nalini Indorf Kaplan.  Previously, Friedman lived in Brooklyn, where she was a successful entrepreneur prior to taking on her rabbinic path.
