Hillel Colorado Donates Charity Ball Proceeds to Federation’s Tsunami Relief

On April 22, two students from Hillel Colorado presented Doug Seserman, President and CEO of the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado with a check for $457.77 to aid in Federation’s Tsunami relief efforts. The money was raised at Hillel of Colorado’s annual charity ball, held this year on March 5 at the Stapleton Radisson in Denver.

After giving much thought as to where to donate the money from their silent auction, the students decided on Federation’s Tsunami relief fund.

“It just seemed like the right thing to do,” said Amanda Schanfield, Chair of the Hillel Charity Ball.

Since the Tsunamis that devastated Southeast Asia in December of 2004, Federation has raised over $142,000 from more than 470 donors to support tsunami relief efforts. The funds raised through Federation are being forwarded to its overseas partner relief agency, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC).

Of the 60 North American Federations raising money for this cause, the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado ranked sixth behind New York, Toronto, Washington DC, Chicago and Los Angeles.

“We are proud to be part of a Jewish community that so generously reached out to help the people who’s lives were devastated by this tragedy,” said Doug Seserman, President and CEO of Federation. “It’s through the dedication and compassion of community members like the Hillel students that the Jewish community has made a tremendous impact on the lives of tsunami victims.”
